Buying & Choosing

Use our Model Selector to see which products suit your make, model, and year.

Follow our Measure Your Vehicle guide to get accurate boot space dimensions.

It really comes down to personal preference and your setup. The Crate is a fully contained unit that provides maximum protection, offering both side and rear impact safety. The Gate, on the other hand, isn’t enclosed but makes better use of the available boot space.

When deciding, consider your dog’s size, your vehicle, and how you plan to use the space. For safety, we generally recommend the Crate first, but if you have a large dog and a smaller boot, the Gate might be the more practical option.

The first step is to take some measurements of your car using our Measure Your Vehicle guide.

If you are still having difficulties, please get in touch with your boot dimensions and we can help find a solution.

VarioCage

No drilling or car modifications are required. The crate attaches to your load-bearing luggage hooks with provided straps.

No. All cages are adjustable in size. Be sure to measure your usable space correctly, see here. Our cages will generally fit all vehicles.

Yes, but it’s very important the dogs do not have a leash or collar on to avoid them getting entangled. Also, the cage should not be too full. There should be enough space for the dogs to lie down comfortably.

We recommend your dog be able to comfortably get into the crate, turn around and lie down. Your dog is in the safest travelling position when he is lying down – just like you are strapped in with your seat belt. The crate should not be too big. No one needs to be doing the hokey pokey! You’ll find our measurement advice here.

No, it doesn’t. The divider doesn’t have anything to do with crash safety. Use it if you need two separate compartments.

Yes! It’s a handy feature indeed. The divider is connected to the front yellow bar, and directly to the back. You can move the divider laterally at the back by around 7cm to give one dog a little more room. The divider is then at a slight angle, providing more room at the back, helping the larger dog to turn around.

Every dog’s crate experience will be different. Consider how you would like to get used to a new area. We have some tips and tricks here.

You will have to replace the barrels because we do not offer keys as spare parts. Spare parts can be ordered here.

The safest way to travel with the crate is with the back seats up. This is what the manufacturer specifies in their safety information. You can find an example of the crash tested video here. The back seats provide some protection in the event of an accident. We are aware that some of our clients put their back seats down and extend their crates to full depth. It’s ultimately your choice. You alone know what will work best for you, your passengers and your dog/s.

No, it should no longer be used. The cage is constructed with zones of energy absorbing material and should be destroyed just like cars when they have used their energy absorbing impact zones.

VarioGate

No, it does not offer the same impact protection from all directions, for example if a side window is smashed. It is however crash tested and will offer some protection in the event of a rear collision.

The VarioGate is recommended for large dogs from 20 kg and above. The wider spacing between the pipes means there is a risk of small dogs / puppies squeezing out. The bars are 5cm apart. Check if this is suitable for your dog. If you aren’t sure, please select a VarioCage.

Care2

We recommend your dog weighs no more than 9kg. Your dog must not exceed 31cm from the ground to its withers. You can find more information here.

Typically it is best placed in the front or backseat secured with a seatbelt. If you are after a small crate that can be secured in the boot area, please select the Minimax.
